CVE-2024-35958 is a memory-management flaw in the Linux kernel Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) driver. The ena_free_tx_bufs() cleanup routine iterates unacknowledged transmit descriptors during queue cleanup, including after a Virtual Function reset. It incorrectly assumes every transmit queue carries network-stack packets and uses the skb-oriented cleanup path for descriptors belonging to XDP-specific transmit queues. ENA maintains distinct queues for conventional network-stack traffic and XDP_REDIRECT or XDP_TX traffic; applying the wrong freeing routine to XDP descriptors results in incorrect descriptor cleanup and can destabilize the kernel.
