CVE-2024-36889 is an initialization flaw in the Linux kernel Multipath TCP (MPTCP) implementation. During early fallback from MPTCP to TCP on a client socket, the MPTCP snd_nxt sequence value may not yet be initialized. A received acknowledgment can then propagate this invalid value to snd_una. If the MPTCP worker subsequently performs MPTCP-level data reinjection, it uses the corrupted snd_una value during send-buffer cleanup, triggering a kernel warning and inconsistent sequence-state handling. The fix initializes snd_nxt, and write_seq for consistency, when the connection is established.
