CVE-2024-36960 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel VMware virtual GPU DRM driver (drm/vmwgfx). When constructing a fence-signaled event, the driver set the embedded DRM event length to the size of its parent structure rather than to the size of the drm_vmw_event_fence structure intended for userspace consumption. The DRM read path trusts this length when copying the event to userspace, causing it to read beyond the intended event structure.
