CVE-2024-38384 is a race condition in the Linux kernel blk-cgroup I/O statistics handling. The __blkcg_rstat_flush() routine may execute concurrently with blk_cgroup_bio_start(). A CPU reordering of the write to the lqueued state relative to a read of a blkcg I/O-stat list node's next pointer can cause __blkcg_rstat_flush() to select a statistics instance that is concurrently being added, corrupting its local list. The upstream fix introduces a memory barrier to enforce the required ordering.
