A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's bridge device transmit (xmit) path allowed the use of uninitialized memory when processing sk_buff (skb) packets shorter than the Ethernet header length (ETH_HLEN). The function br_dev_xmit in net/bridge/br_device.c did not properly check that the skb was long enough before accessing its contents, leading to potential use of uninitialized values. This could be triggered by sending a deliberately short packet to the bridge device, as demonstrated by syzbot and dropwatch logs.
