CVE-2024-38540 is an undefined-behavior flaw in the Linux kernel Broadcom NetXtreme-E RDMA driver, bnxt_re. In bnxt_qplib_alloc_init_hwq(), the driver can invoke roundup_pow_of_two() with an auxiliary queue stride of zero when the auxiliary queue depth is nonzero. The helper is undefined for a zero argument, resulting in a shift exponent equal to the width of an unsigned long (64 on affected 64-bit systems). The flaw was observed during queue-pair creation while the driver initializes RDMA management resources.
