CVE-2024-38558 is an improper initialization flaw in the Linux kernel Open vSwitch datapath's OVS_PACKET_CMD_EXECUTE handling. Packet metadata supplied through OVS_PACKET_ATTR_KEY is parsed before packet headers and can populate the connection-tracking original tuple in sw_flow_key. When subsequently parsing an ICMPv6 header, the datapath unconditionally clears Neighbor Discovery fields. Those fields share a union with the IPv6 conntrack original-tuple representation, causing non-ND ICMPv6 traffic to overwrite most of the original destination address. The fix restricts initialization of Neighbor Discovery fields to actual Neighbor Discovery packets.
