CVE-2024-38564 is an input-validation flaw in the Linux kernel BPF link-creation path. BPF program attachment through the legacy attach path validates the association between BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SKB and its permitted cgroup attach type. BPF_LINK_CREATE did not enforce the equivalent restriction: it obtained the program and relied on generic attach-type checking that did not properly validate this program-type and attach-type association. Consequently, a cgroup_skb BPF program could be attached to other cgroup hooks. The fix adds explicit BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_SKB attach-type enforcement during BPF_LINK_CREATE.
