CVE-2024-38570 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel GFS2 clustered filesystem during unmount. GFS2 previously freed glock objects that it did not explicitly unlock before releasing the associated DLM lockspace. DLM asynchronous lock contention notification callbacks, including AST and BAST callbacks, can remain active until their lock is unlocked or the lockspace is released. Those callbacks could therefore dereference already-deallocated glock objects. The fix retains glocks on the dead-glock list until after DLM lockspace release, then frees them, and ignores unexpected callbacks received for dead glocks.
