CVE-2024-38573 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel CPPC CPU frequency-scaling driver. The cppc_cpufreq_get_rate() and hisi_cppc_cpufreq_get_rate() paths may be invoked with varying CPU-related parameters. In affected conditions, cpufreq_cpu_get() can return a NULL policy pointer, which was subsequently dereferenced. The upstream fix validates the returned policy and handles the NULL result before dereferencing it.
