CVE-2024-39276 is a reference-count leak in the Linux kernel ext4 extended-attribute block-cache lookup path, ext4_xattr_block_cache_find(). When an existing mb_cache entry is found, its e_refcnt is incremented by the cache lookup. If the subsequent ext4_sb_bread() operation fails with -ENOMEM, the error path does not release that acquired cache-entry reference. Repeated execution of this path leaks references and can cause mb_cache_destroy() to detect outstanding references during ext4 filesystem teardown.
