CVE-2024-39476 is a deadlock and busy-loop flaw in the Linux kernel MD RAID5 implementation. In the affected raid5d() processing path, md_check_recovery() requires reconfig_mutex to clear MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING, while RAID5 I/O issuance waits for that flag to clear. If another context holds reconfig_mutex, raid5d() can repeatedly process I/O while being unable to clear the pending state itself. The fix skips I/O issuance when MD_SB_CHANGE_PENDING remains set after recovery checking and wakes the daemon after reconfig_mutex is released.
