CVE-2024-40912 is a deadlock in the Linux kernel mac80211 wireless subsystem's ieee80211_sta_ps_deliver_wakeup() function. The function acquires sta->ps_lock with spin_lock() while synchronizing with ieee80211_tx_h_unicast_ps_buf(), which can run in softirq context. Because spin_lock() does not disable bottom halves, a softirq can execute on the same CPU while the lock is held and attempt to acquire the same lock, causing a self-deadlock and RCU stall. The fix uses spin_lock_bh() and spin_unlock_bh() to prevent softirq execution on the CPU holding the lock.
