CVE-2024-40924 is a flaw in the Linux kernel Intel i915 DRM driver's Display Page Table (DPT) object handling. Under certain memory-reclaim scenarios, a DPT object can be shrunk while its associated framebuffer remains present on the DPT virtual memory bound list. Subsequent page-table-entry rewriting uses a stale CPU mapping for the reclaimed DPT object, resulting in invalid memory access and a kernel panic. The fix makes DPT objects unshrinkable.
