CVE-2024-40977 is an improper locking vulnerability in the Linux kernel mt76 wireless driver’s mt7921s component. During wireless-chip recovery, including reset operations, the reset_work worker can retain a lock while waiting for stat_worker to park. Concurrently, stat_worker can be blocked attempting to acquire that same lock, creating a circular wait and kernel deadlock. The fix prevents stat_worker execution during chip recovery.
