CVE-2024-40984 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel ACPICA operation-region mapping path. A prior change limited mappings so that they did not cross a page boundary. When an ACPI operation-region access requested a length extending past the current page boundary, the mapping could be truncated to the bytes remaining in that page while subsequent read or write processing still accessed the originally requested full length. This mismatch can dereference a NULL mapping pointer. The fix reverts the truncating behavior and permits mapping the complete requested length across page and region boundaries, consistent with the ACPI specification.
