CVE-2024-40997 is a memory leak in the Linux kernel cpufreq amd-pstate driver's Energy Performance Preference (EPP) path. Memory for CPU-specific cpudata is allocated with kzalloc() during amd_pstate_epp_cpu_init(), but was not released by the corresponding CPU EPP exit handler. Consequently, allocations can remain unreclaimed after CPU EPP teardown.
