CVE-2024-41039 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel firmware: cs_dsp component when parsing WMFW firmware headers. The affected length validation checked for the combined size of wmfw_header, wmfw_adsp1_sizes, and wmfw_footer. However, ADSP2 and Halo Core firmware uses wmfw_adsp2_sizes, which is four bytes larger than wmfw_adsp1_sizes. Consequently, a truncated ADSP2 or Halo Core firmware buffer could satisfy the original check while lacking sufficient bytes for the structure subsequently parsed. The fix validates wmfw_header, the applicable ADSP size structure, and wmfw_footer separately before use.
