CVE-2024-41044 is an improper input-validation flaw in the Linux kernel PPP subsystem. The PPP asynchronous encoder assumed that packets identified as Link Control Protocol (LCP) messages were valid and used an LCP code value in the expected range of 1 through 7. Malformed data could claim to be an LCP packet while lacking data beyond the PPP LCP header. The fix adds packet validation before encoding to verify that a claimed LCP packet contains an actual body and rejects malformed packets.
