CVE-2024-41044 is an input-validation vulnerability in the Linux kernel Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) subsystem. The PPP asynchronous encoding path, ppp_async_encode(), assumes that packets presented as Link Control Protocol (LCP) packets are valid and use an LCP code from 1 through 7. Malformed data can claim to be LCP while containing no body beyond the PPP_LCP header. The correction adds ppp_check_packet() to validate the LCP packet structure and reject malformed claimed-as-LCP packets before they reach the encoding path.
