CVE-2024-41091 is a flaw in the Linux kernel TUN/TAP driver, specifically in the tun_xdp_one() path, where a missing length check allowed processing of frames shorter than the Ethernet header size. The vulnerable path failed to verify that the frame length was at least ETH_HLEN before passing the packet to eth_type_trans() and further down the networking stack. As a result, a corrupted skb could be constructed and transmitted with inconsistent or invalid header metadata. The upstream fix drops frames shorter than the Ethernet header size, aligning tun_xdp_one() behavior with the existing tun_get_user() validation for IFF_TAP.
