CVE-2024-41096 is a use-after-free in the Linux kernel PCI/MSI initialization path. During MSI descriptor setup, msi_capability_init() allocates an MSI descriptor through __pci_enable_msi_range(). If MSI IRQ-domain allocation subsequently fails, the failure path frees the descriptor. Control then returns to msi_capability_init(), whose error-exit path accesses the freed descriptor while attempting to unmask MSI. The fix preserves a copy of the descriptor for the error-path unmask operation, eliminating access to freed memory.
