CVE-2024-41096 is a use-after-free read in the Linux kernel PCI Message Signaled Interrupts (MSI) subsystem. During MSI IRQ setup, an MSI descriptor may be freed when MSI IRQ allocation fails. The failure then returns to the error path in msi_capability_init, which performs an unmask operation using the freed descriptor through __pci_enable_msi_range. The upstream correction copies the descriptor and uses that copy for the error-path unmask operation.
