CVE-2024-42070 is an information-disclosure vulnerability in the Linux kernel Netfilter nftables (nf_tables) subsystem. Validation of NFT_DATA_VALUE during stores to nftables data registers was conditional, despite the relevant datatype being constrained to NFT_DATA_VALUE or NFT_DATA_VERDICT. This incomplete validation could permit a pointer to an nftables chain object to be exposed through registers. The upstream fix infers the destination register type from the set datatype and performs complete validation before the store.
