CVE-2024-42154 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel tcp_metrics Netlink handling. TCP_METRICS_ATTR_SADDR_IPV4 was neither constrained by the applicable Netlink attribute policy nor manually verified to contain the required four-byte IPv4 address before being consumed. A malformed, undersized IPv4 source-address attribute can therefore cause the kernel to access data beyond the supplied attribute. IPv6 source-address attributes were separately subject to manual validation.
