CVE-2024-42238 affects the Linux kernel cs_dsp firmware loader. During firmware processing, cs_dsp_load() and cs_dsp_load_coeff() iterated only while sufficient data remained for a valid region, preventing an out-of-bounds read but silently accepting a firmware file whose trailing block header extended beyond the remaining file data. The fix makes cs_dsp_power_up() return an error when a block header is longer than the data remaining in the firmware image.
