CVE-2024-42301 is a stack-based array out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel parallel-port subsystem. The affected hardware-base-address handling path used unbounded sprintf operations to copy formatted data into fixed-size destination buffers. Excessively long output can overflow the destination array and corrupt adjacent kernel stack state. The fix replaces sprintf with snprintf to enforce destination-buffer bounds.
