CVE-2024-43882 is a time-of-check-to-time-of-use race in Linux kernel executable permission checking and set-user-ID/set-group-ID handling. do_filp_open() validates execution permissions using the file metadata available when opening an executable, but the execve() path later uses its mode, UID, and GID to determine credential changes. Changes between these stages can cause execution with unintended privileges. A demonstrated scenario involves package-manager updates that remove world-execute permission while enabling setuid-root: a user excluded by the new permissions can pass the earlier permission check and subsequently execute with root privileges.

A local privilege-escalation vulnerability in the Linux kernel's exec path. A race between execution permission checking and subsequent use of file mode, UID, and GID can allow an unauthorized user to execute a program with root privileges while its permissions are being changed. The reference rates it High with a CVSS v3 base score of 7.0. It describes demonstrated exploitability but separately states that no known exploits are available; it does not report in-the-wild attacks.
A high-severity Linux kernel local privilege-escalation vulnerability caused by a time-of-check to time-of-use race between execute-permission validation and later use of file metadata for setuid/setgid handling. A successful race can allow an unauthorized local user to execute a file after it becomes restricted and obtain root privileges.
