CVE-2024-44989 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel bonding driver's interaction with the XFRM/IPsec hardware-offload path. During a bonding active-slave transition, the driver could clear its real_dev reference while packets were still in transit. XFRM could concurrently invoke the device offload eligibility callback, including bond_ipsec_offload_ok() and the underlying device callback, which assumes that real_dev remains valid. This race can dereference the cleared pointer and trigger a kernel page fault. The fix retains a valid real_dev rather than setting it to NULL while concurrent packet processing remains possible.
