CVE-2024-45806 is an improper access-control vulnerability in Envoy's handling of internal trust boundaries. Envoy historically treated all RFC1918 private-address ranges as internal by default, including when internal_address_config was empty. Consequently, a client regarded by Envoy as originating from a private address could supply or manipulate x-envoy headers that should be restricted to trusted internal sources. This can cause Envoy or service-mesh policy components to make security-relevant decisions based on attacker-controlled header values.
