CVE-2024-47727 is an x86 Linux kernel flaw in the Trusted Domain Extensions (TDX) MMIO exception-handling path. TDX permits only kernel-initiated MMIO, and handle_mmio() previously determined whether an MMIO #VE was in-kernel based on exception context without validating that the target address was in kernel space. A userspace process could pass an MMIO address to a syscall whose implementation performs get_user() or put_user(), causing an MMIO #VE that the kernel misclassified as a kernel-initiated MMIO operation. The fix validates that the MMIO target address belongs to kernel space before decoding the instruction.
