CVE-2024-47823 affects livewire/livewire prior to versions 2.12.7 and 3.5.2. The vulnerability is in file upload handling: Livewire guesses the uploaded file extension from the MIME type and does not validate the actual extension present in the original filename. This allows an attacker to submit a file with an allowed MIME type such as image/png while retaining a dangerous server-executable extension such as .php in the filename. If the application uses the original client filename via $file->getClientOriginalName(), stores the uploaded file directly on a public storage disk on the server, and the web server is configured to execute .php files from that location, the attacker can upload a PHP payload and trigger remote code execution.
