CVE-2024-4883 is a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Progress WhatsUp Gold versions prior to 2023.1.3. The flaw is exposed through the NmApi.exe service, specifically the .NET WCF ICoreServices interface reachable over the product's network service. The vulnerable WriteDataFile operation accepts attacker-controlled file metadata and content and constructs a destination path from user-influenced directory and file name fields without proper validation or confinement to an intended directory. This creates a write-what-where primitive via path traversal, allowing arbitrary file write outside the expected storage location. Public technical analysis indicates the primitive can be used to place attacker-controlled ASPX content into the application's web-accessible directory, converting the arbitrary file write into pre-authentication remote code execution. Successful exploitation executes code in the context of the WhatsUp Gold service account.

This repository contains a functional exploit for CVE-2024-4883, a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Progress WhatsUp Gold. The exploit is implemented in C# (CVE-2024-4883.cs) and allows an attacker to connect to the vulnerable ICoreServices service over TCP (default port 9643), leveraging a 'write what where' primitive to upload an arbitrary ASPX webshell to the server's web directory. The attacker can then access the webshell via HTTPS to execute arbitrary commands on the target system. The exploit is operational, requiring the attacker to supply a webshell file and the target's address. The README.md provides usage instructions, technical background, and mitigation advice. No framework is used; the exploit is standalone and directly targets the vulnerable service.

An unauthenticated path traversal in Progress WhatsUp Gold's NmApi WriteDataFile functionality that enables arbitrary file write and can be turned into pre-auth remote code execution, such as by planting a webshell.
