CVE-2024-49882 is a double-release vulnerability in the Linux kernel ext4 extent-tree handling code. In ext4_ext_try_to_merge_up(), a released extent-path buffer is not cleared from path[1].p_bh. In an error path involving extent splitting, tree-depth growth, and a subsequent extent-tree block read failure, cleanup can release the stale buffer reference a second time. The condition produces a kernel warning indicating an attempt to free an already freed buffer.
