CVE-2024-50047 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB client asynchronous decryption path. Concurrent use of a shared cryptographic transform during a large encrypted SMB read can cause access to freed memory within the kernel crypto API. The failure occurs while smb2_decrypt_offload processes work on the smb3decryptd workqueue, with the call chain passing through decrypt_raw_data and crypt_message. KASAN detects an eight-byte read from freed memory in gf128mul_4k_lle. The vulnerability can cause a kernel crash.

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB/CIFS client's asynchronous decryption path. Concurrent use of a cryptographic transform can cause invalid memory access and a kernel crash. The fix allocates a separate AEAD transform for asynchronous decryption while retaining the existing transform for synchronous reads. The reference rates the vulnerability High, with a CVSS v3 base score of 7.8, and provides a crash reproducer but explicitly states that no known exploits are available.
