CVE-2024-50142 is an input-validation vulnerability in the Linux kernel XFRM subsystem when creating a new Security Association (SA). If the SA selector family is AF_UNSPEC, the pre-fix verify_newsa_info routine does not constrain the source and destination selector prefix lengths. A later copy_from_user_state operation assigns the selector family from the SA family, such as AF_INET, causing an unchecked prefix length to be used in an IPv4 selector context. The fix applies the SA-family conversion before validating the prefix lengths.

A Linux kernel XFRM validation flaw that could permit invalid security-association prefix lengths when the selector family is AF_UNSPEC, potentially resulting in a local denial of service.
A locally exploitable vulnerability requiring low privileges and no user interaction that can cause high availability impact, with no stated confidentiality or integrity impact.
