CVE-2024-53990 affects the AsyncHttpClient (AHC) Java library. AHC automatically enables and manages an internal CookieStore (cookie jar). When an application makes an HTTP request, cookies explicitly set by the application can be silently replaced if the internal CookieStore contains a cookie with the same name. In multi-user services that reuse a shared AsyncHttpClient instance across requests or tenants, this behavior can cause a cookie associated with one user to be sent with another user's request. The issue is therefore a cookie-handling flaw in which the library's implicit cookie state can override application-supplied cookie values, leading to cross-user session or authentication context confusion.
