CVE-2024-56326 is a code-injection vulnerability in Jinja's sandboxed environment before version 3.1.5. The sandbox protected direct calls to str.format, but did not consistently recognize an indirectly invoked reference to a string object's format method. An attacker controlling template content can retain such a method reference and pass it to an application-defined filter that invokes the supplied callable, bypassing sandbox restrictions. Jinja has no built-in filter with this behavior; exposure depends on custom application filters and execution of untrusted templates.
