CVE-2024-56374 is a resource-exhaustion vulnerability in Django IPv6-address validation. Django versions 5.1 prior to 5.1.5, 5.0 prior to 5.0.11, and 4.2 prior to 4.2.18 do not enforce an upper bound on strings supplied to IPv6 validation. The affected interfaces are the private, undocumented clean_ipv6_address and is_valid_ipv6_address functions and django.forms.GenericIPAddressField. The django.db.models.GenericIPAddressField model field is not affected. Fixed releases enforce a maximum length of 39 characters for the affected form-field validation path.
