CVE-2024-7966 is an out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in the Skia graphics component of Google Chrome. Chrome versions before 128.0.6613.84 are affected. A remote attacker who has already compromised the renderer process can trigger the flaw using a crafted HTML page, causing memory access outside intended bounds. The vulnerability has also been reported as potentially enabling remote code execution.

This repository is a proof-of-concept (PoC) exploit for a vulnerability in Google Chrome's GPU process, fixed in version M128. The exploit consists of: - A patch file (chromium.diff) that modifies Chromium's GPU command buffer client code to include and use a custom Skia picture file. - A Python script (genskpic.py) that generates a specially crafted Skia picture file (pic.skp) and a corresponding C++ header (drawable_picture.skp.hh) containing the malicious payload. - Instructions in README.txt to apply the patch, generate the payload, and build/run the browser. When the modified browser is run and any page is loaded, the GPU process will crash, demonstrating the vulnerability. The exploit targets the Skia graphics library's deserialization or rasterization logic, likely causing a memory corruption or crash via malformed data. The attack vector is local (requires building and running a patched browser), but the underlying vulnerability is in the browser's GPU process and could potentially be triggered via web content in a real-world scenario. No network endpoints or external services are involved; the main fingerprintable artifact is the generated file src/gpu/command_buffer/client/drawable_picture.skp.hh.
