CVE-2025-0289 is an insecure kernel resource access vulnerability in Paragon Software BioNTdrv.sys, affecting Paragon Partition Manager version 17. The vulnerable Microsoft-signed kernel driver fails to validate the MappedSystemVa pointer before passing it to HalReturnToFirmware. Because the pointer is attacker-controlled and insufficiently validated in kernel context, a local attacker can abuse the driver to trigger privileged code execution. The issue is particularly significant because BioNTdrv.sys is signed and trusted by Windows, enabling Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) abuse even on systems where Paragon Partition Manager is not installed, provided the attacker can load the vulnerable driver.

A Paragon Partition Manager BioNTdrv.sys driver vulnerability exploited in ransomware attacks for privilege escalation and arbitrary code execution.
An insecure kernel resource access issue in Paragon Partition Manager’s Microsoft-signed BioNTdrv.sys driver (v17) allowing privileged/kernel code execution via an unvalidated attacker-controlled pointer; specifically cited as used in observed BYOVD-based ransomware attacks.
