CVE-2025-0686 is an integer-overflow vulnerability in GRUB2's ROMFS filesystem module during symbolic-link lookup. GRUB derives internal buffer sizes from filesystem geometry values controlled by a ROMFS image but does not correctly validate arithmetic overflow. An overflow can cause allocation of a buffer smaller than required; subsequent symlink data reads through grub_disk_read() can write beyond that allocation.
