CVE-2025-11243 is a high-severity denial-of-service vulnerability affecting Shelly Pro 4PM smart relays before firmware version 1.6.0. The flaw is rooted in unbounded resource allocation during parsing of user-controlled JSON-RPC input exposed through the device’s remote-control interface, including the /rpc HTTP endpoint and also RPC over WebSocket and MQTT. According to the provided analysis, RPC handlers use the Frozen library’s json_scanf function, and the %Q format specifier allocates memory for string values with malloc without adequate bounds checking. By sending an oversized string parameter in a JSON-RPC request, an attacker can exhaust heap memory and cause the device to crash or reboot. The issue is triggered during input parsing, before authentication, ACL enforcement, and even method validation, and reportedly affects roughly 30 API methods.
