A denial-of-service vulnerability exists in the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) confederation implementation of Cisco IOS XR Software. The issue is caused by memory corruption when a BGP UPDATE is created with an AS_CONFED_SEQUENCE path attribute containing 255 autonomous system numbers. An unauthenticated remote attacker who controls a BGP confederation speaker within the same autonomous system as the target, or a network topology that causes the AS_CONFED_SEQUENCE attribute to grow to 255 AS numbers or more, can trigger the flaw by sending a crafted BGP UPDATE message. Successful exploitation can corrupt memory in the BGP process and cause the process to restart.
