CVE-2025-21727 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel padata subsystem. Concurrent deletion of a cryptographic algorithm can reduce a parallel-data object's reference count to zero and free it while padata_reorder() is still iterating. A subsequent padata_find_next() call then accesses the freed object. KASAN detected a four-byte slab-use-after-free read during Linux Test Project testing. The flaw results from insufficient synchronization between serial processing and object teardown and can cause system instability, denial of service, or potential privilege escalation.

A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's padata subsystem. Concurrent deletion of a cryptographic algorithm can release a padata structure while padata_reorder still accesses it. The fix adds synchronize_rcu() in padata_free_shell to wait for outstanding serial calls to finish. The advisory rates the vulnerability High, with a CVSS v3 score of 7.8 and a local, low-privilege attack vector.
A high-severity local use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel padata subsystem's reorder path. It affects Google COS installations with sys-kernel/lakitu-kernel-6_1 before version 18244.291.93.
A high-severity local Linux kernel use-after-free vulnerability in the padata subsystem's reorder path. A race during algorithm deletion can free a padata object while padata_reorder continues to use it.
A high-severity Linux kernel use-after-free vulnerability in the padata subsystem's padata_reorder path. A race condition can allow padata_find_next to access a freed padata object after a cryptographic algorithm is deleted.
