CVE-2025-21846 is a NULL-pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel process-accounting subsystem. When acct(2) directs accounting output to a file whose write operation performs an internal lookup, the final accounting write can access current->fs after the calling task has exited and invoked exit_fs(). The filesystem context is then unavailable, causing a kernel NULL-pointer dereference and potential denial of service. The fix executes the final write from a workqueue while retaining the caller's credentials.

A Linux kernel process-accounting vulnerability that can cause a NULL pointer dereference and denial of service. The listed CVSS v3 base score is 5.5, indicating local exploitation requiring low privileges, with high availability impact and no confidentiality or integrity impact. The fix moves the final accounting write to a workqueue while retaining the caller's credentials.

Linux kernel accounting last-write workqueue handling flaw.
A Linux kernel local denial-of-service vulnerability in accounting (acct), where a crafted acct(2) write target can cause a NULL-pointer dereference involving current->fs. The fix moves the final write to a workqueue while retaining the caller's credentials.
