CVE-2025-21855 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel IBM Virtual Network Interface Controller (ibmvnic) driver. After transmitting a buffer to the Virtual I/O Server (VIOS), the ibmvnic_xmit transmit path reads the socket-buffer length to update transmit-byte statistics. VIOS may asynchronously trigger an interrupt that frees the socket buffer before that read occurs, resulting in a race-driven read from freed memory. The condition was observed by KASAN as a slab use-after-free and is particularly likely during Live Partition Mobility (LPM).
