CVE-2025-30400 is an elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in the Windows Desktop Window Manager (DWM), also described as affecting the Microsoft DWM Core Library. The flaw is a use-after-free condition in DWM, with reporting indicating the vulnerable code path is in the DWM core component associated with window rendering and memory reference handling. By triggering the stale memory reference condition through crafted local interaction with the DWM compositor, an attacker can corrupt memory and elevate privileges. Microsoft described the issue as allowing an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally, and multiple reports state successful exploitation can result in execution with NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM privileges. The vulnerability was reported as actively exploited in the wild at the time of patch release.
