CVE-2025-38086 is an uninitialized-memory access in the Linux kernel CH9200 network driver during the MDIO restart path. mii_nway_restart() invokes ch9200_mdio_read() through the MDIO read callback. ch9200_mdio_read() calls control_read() to populate a local buffer, but previously ignored its return value. control_read() copies received data only when the USB control transfer returns the expected size; on an error or short transfer, the local buffer remains uninitialized. ch9200_mdio_read() then reads two bytes from that buffer and returns them as an MDIO register value. The fix validates the control_read() result and exits early if the transfer fails.
