CVE-2025-38106 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel io_uring subsystem's __io_uring_show_fdinfo() function. The function can access the task_struct referenced by sq->thread after that thread has exited and its task_struct has been released. Holding ctx->uring_lock does not prevent the referenced thread from exiting or being released. The corrected implementation assigns and retrieves the thread pointer under RCU protection and obtains a task_struct reference before use.
