A flaw in the Linux kernel eBPF verifier allowed the stack pointer register, r10, to be incorrectly included in precision backtracking bookkeeping during conditional jump analysis. The issue occurs in verifier precision tracking logic, specifically in the backtracking path that marks registers as precise across instructions and subprogram boundaries. When a BPF program performs a conditional comparison involving r10, the verifier can propagate an invalid register mask into __mark_chain_precision(). This violates an internal verifier invariant that only argument registers should remain marked precise when exiting a static subprogram, triggering the "verifier backtracking bug" warning and causing the verifier to return -EFAULT. The upstream fix excludes the stack pointer register from precision backtracking bookkeeping.
