CVE-2025-38527 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB/CIFS client’s cifs_oplock_break() path. During concurrent CIFS filesystem unmount and opportunistic-lock break processing, _cifsFileInfo_put() can release the final superblock reference. This initiates superblock teardown and RCU-mediated inode destruction, including freeing the cinode object, while cifs_oplock_break() still accesses that object for lock release and oplock-break completion. The fix retains an additional superblock reference for the entire oplock-break operation, preventing inode reclamation until processing finishes.
